Black Stars and Anderlecht attacker, Frank Acheampong, continues to improve week after week. He scored the last of a 5-0 romping of Mechelen at home on Saturday in the Belgian Pro League.
First half goals from Aleksandar Mitrović, Sacha Klještan, Aleksandar Mitrović and Matias Suárez (Acheampong assist) ensured a very comfortable lead going into the break.
And it looked set to remain the same. But Acheampong had something to say about it.
The U20 bronze medal winner scored very late, in the 89th minute of the game to cap a great performance. The goal was his third in seven appearances this season.
After putting up an impressive performance at the U20 World Cup in Turkey, coach John van den Brom has featured the 19-year-old Black Satellites player in his plans and Acheampong is definitely seizing his chance.
The former King Faisal man has already started his season by winning his first silverware, without even kicking a ball. He was selected in the team’s 18-man squad for the Belgian Super Cup clash with his countryman Bernard Yao Kumordzi’s Genk, which they won 1-0.
Acheampong joined Thai side Buriram United in February 2011, after he left King Faisal in 2010 and spent a year with Berekum Chelsea.
