With the minds of almost all soccer loving fans in Ghana fixed on the upcoming Black Stars World Cup qualifier in Kumasi, many have wondered why this weekend’s round of matches were not suspended. The questions may linger but all match venues except Kumasi will be filled with thrilling action.
Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak will be involved in the top liner with Berekum Chelsea. The Phobians, who lie second, 3 points adrift rivals Kotoko could move to same points with a win. New Phobian revelation, Kweku Andoh is set to miss the match with suspension but with Berekum FC bad start to the league, Hearts’ winning streak will continue. A heavy loss however may see the first coaching casualty for the ongoing league in Berekum FC’s Tony Lokko.
Medeama welcome Ashgold to the T&A park on Sunday with the sub-plots filled all with Bashiru Hayford. Bashiru, the miners’ coach had a nice stint with Medeama before joining Ashgold. His team lies third and are having a good run but winning at the Tarkwa park has always proven arduous for most visitng teams. A score draw may not be a bad bet in what will surely be an uncompromising encounter.
Hearts of Lions travel to Dormaa Park to meet Aduana. The Kpando team’s decision to re-employ some of their old guys in Ahorlu, Owusu- Ansah et al seems to be yielding a good result. In form Nana Egyir will be one to watch out for but Aduana is poised to make most of their home advantage.
Ebusua Dwarfs have had a mixed run of results in the league but have always been providing delightiful play. Professor Mintah’s boys will however have to win matches to calm tempers of the fans and what a better chance than against Liberty this Sunday? The former ‘Scientific Soccer Lads’ seem to have lost their shine since bankroller Alhaji Sly Tetteh passed on to eternity. And as they travel to the city of his demise, Dwarfs will likely compound their sorrows by winning.
Bechem United are making a fortress at their home ground and as New Edubiase enter the place, few will expect them to come out unscathed. New Edubiase have let go of points at very late stages in their previous games and their technical handlers will expect them to hold on for a draw at least. It will be interesting to see if they can do that at Bechem.
Amidaus will meet Faisal at the Tema Stadium whilst their neigbour, Inter Allies will travel to Wa to seek their first points against All Stars. Any failure on the part of the visiting Tema club will all but confirm fears of their return back to Division One.
