The thrills in the on-going Premier League continues this weekend with exciting fixtures at all match venues.
King Faisal begins with the weekend’s early kickoff at the Baba Yara Stadium when they host Medeama FC on Saturday. Alhaji Grusah’s boys made a return to Kumasi still without a win on the road and new coach Carlos Paulette will help his stay in Ghana by making the most of home matches. However, Medeama have also not been in their usual good run this season but have still avoided losses on the road and be tricky opponents.
The weekend top liner is definitely at Kpando where second- placed Hearts of Oak visit Heart of Lions. Lions are yet to lose at their dreaded Kpando fortress and coming from their first league defeat at Aduana last week, spectators are assured of an interesting match on Sunday. Hearts of Oak have won all their away matches so far in the league and Duncan’s charges including new gem, Winful Cobbinah, Selasi Adjei and Ashittey Ollenu are determined to keep the record as they chase top spot. Heart of Lions may know all too well about striker Fiamenyo and with his old friends Stephen Ahorlu back in post for Lions it will definitely be a match to savour.
Bechem United faces their toughest opponent so far in the league on Sunday when reigning Champions and league leader, Kumasi Asante Kotoko comes visiting. That, Bechem’s only loss so far in the league was to Hearts says a lot about their run in the league and they will need to go beyond those performances and lay a marker this season if they want to stop Kotoko. The Porcupine warriors are in a buoyant form and already talks of the title are gathering up in Kumasi but Bechem could well be their new waterloo.
Liberty went and mysteriously silenced Dwarfs last Sunday at Cape Coast but with their mixed performance in the league so far, Aduana will fancy a win at the Accra Stadium this Sunday. Coach Sarpong may have to come without goal scorer Emmanuel Alan but the Accra Stadium is an all too familiar grounds for him and a draw looks more likely on the betting cards.
Ashgold are 6 points off leaders Kotoko and know that any slip could all but shatter a title dream this year. However, the miners are yet to lose at home so with Dwarfs visiting, they look likely to keep their home record. Dwarfs are boosted by Coach Professor Mintah returning from the Black Stars camp and if what Ghana itnessed from the Stars technical handlers is anything to go by, a shock may be on the way at Obuasi on Sunday.
Amidaus were ruthless against King Faisal last weekend but will have a much difficult opponent in Wa All Stars at the Tema Stadium this weekend. The Wa outfit has not been very good travellers but if ever there will be an opportunity to snatch an away point, then Sunday will be one. Amidaus though are favourites on the artificial pitch at the venue.
Management of Hasaacas will breathe a sign of respite as Inter Allies visit is a must win match that they could achieve to put the anger of local fans off their backs. The league debutants are without a win in the leagues so far and fans are hoping earnestly that the appointment of experienced coach Herbert Addo will aid their survival efforts. Addo has a big task upon him and even a draw on Sunday will be the best of starts he could ask for.
Berekum FC is unusually close to relegation this season and when New Edubiase visits on Sunday, the least fans will expect is a win. Coach van der Plyum’s side is really missing Jordan Opoku in the midfield and Abdul Basit will be expected to step up and marshal his colleagues for a home win. Edubiase have been unrelenting especially in their away games so far and could steal a draw with the least chance.
