Ghana Premier League returns: Week 13 - Kotoko, Hearts in tricky duels

By Kwabena ‘onike’ Boateng

After a temporary break for the local Black Stars preparation in the Gotv WAFU tourney, the Ghana Premier League resumes with thrilling encounters at all league centers on Sunday.

In the absence of a sub-regional league competition many football followers believe the triumph of the local Black Stars in the WAFU tournament is enough testimony that our league is superior in the sub-region and the main architects(players) will try to justify that and ensure they secure their ticket to the upcoming CHAN tournament in South Africa next year.

The call to be careful where we slipped will hold true for Hearts  as they return to familiar grounds at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. Their last league match ended in a defeat at the grounds but with club legend Mohammed Polo installed as their new tactician, fans will be hopeful for a turnaround against Ebusua Dwarfs.

Kotoko’s lead seemed precarious but a masterful performance against local rivals King Faisal restored belief among their faithfuls. A trip to Tema to meet Amidaus beckons and the host have already shown that they can be very difficult to defeat.

Yahaya Mohammed who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Amidaus last season may miss the game through injury and new coach of Amidaus, Shaibu Tanko will be blessing his stars as he plots a game plan to halt the marauding league leaders.

Ashgold were humbled by Inter Allies against the pundits prediction and if they are to maintain their title chase, they know that the least they can do is beat Hasaacas as they visit Obuasi. The Len Clay has proven to be a tough place to earn a point as league giants Hearts and Kotoko all came back empty handed but Hasaacas, the giant from the West have a penchant for surprises and could well spark some magic on Sunday.

It will be a battle of survival with the points at stake very crucial when Faisal host Inter Allies. The league debutants seem to be adapting with the experienced Herbert Addo holding the reins. They shocked Liberty in Accra and there is an inkling they will not come empty handed from Kumasi though Carlos Paulette knows any slip could well be his last match in charge.

Fourth-placed Medeama will be in no mood to lose grounds when New Edubiase visits at the Tarkwa T&A park. Edubiase have proven to be very poor travelers and only a repeat of their 4-star performance against Amidaus in the Matchday 13 could earn them a point in Tarkwa.

Bogdan, the Serbian coach of Aduana earned his double over Dwarfs and could push his stock among the Dormaa faithfuls higher when they host Wa All Stars on Sunday. Wa All Stars are still without an away win and looks set to continue with that record on Sunday.

The woes of Berekum Chelsea could be deepened on Sunday when they clash with Lions on Sunday at Kpando with their uncharacteristic run in league thus far. Sam Yeboah, Edmund Owusu with keeper Mozart Adjetey are unforgiving on a good day particularly at Kpando.

Bechem United will also play Liberty at the Accra Sports Stadium.
