Ghana Premier League - Matchday 13: Polo wins first game, Yahaya scores again at Tema, Lions thrash FC Berekum

Mohammed Polo kicked off his campaign as manager of Hearts of Oak with a win against Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium. Hearts of Oak were ahead in the 23rd minute courtesy Thomas Abbey after he finished off a Winful Cobbinah through ball.

The second half commenced with the home side mounting pressure on the visitors, Francis Attuquaye came close to leveling for Dwarfs but dragged his shot wide Philemon McCarthy’ goal. Hearts of Oak showed more idea in the middle of the pitch and thwarted efforts from the midfielders of Dwarfs. The game ended 1 – 0 in favour of the Phobians.

Yahaya Mohammed continued his scoring form at the Tema pitch for club, Kumasi Asante Kotoko as they beat Amidaus Professionals by 2 goals to nil. His double on the day was enough to hand the Porcupine warriors all three points at stake. Amidaus Professionals on the day could not match the threat posed to them by their opponents.

Kotoko lead the pack with 30 points followed closely by arch rivals Hearts of Oak with 26 points.

FC Berekum’s poor form continued as they succumb to a 3 – 0 defeat to Heart of Lions at the Kpando Stadium. Idan Conney started the rampage when he put the home side in front in the 15th minute, Sheriff Mohammed and Samuel Yeboah completed the thrashing in the second half.

At the T & A Park in Tarkwa, Medeama and Edubiase SC played to a 1 – 1 draw game. Victor Ayire put Medeama in front before Stephen Manu equalised for Edubiase in the second half.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, Liberty Professionals beat Bechem United by 2 goals to 1. Tamimu Muntari in the 18thminute got the first goal of the game, Liberty dominated and scored their second from the penalty spot.  Paul Manu scored a consolation for the Bechem lads late in the game

Liberty Professionals travel to Berekum in week 14 of the GPL, Bechem United host Ashantigold.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Allan got the match winner for Aduana Stars against Wa All Stars at the Agyemang Badu Stadium.

King Faisal defeated Inter Allies by a goal to nil at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium. Top scorer Sulley Mohammed in the 13th minute set up Prince Boateng for the only goal of the game.

Ashantigold enhanced their title chances with a 1 – 0 victory over Sekondi Hasaacas at the Len Clay Sports Stadium. Bernard Morrison converted a 27th minute penalty to seal the victory for the miners.
