Ghanaian Players Abroad – 16-19 December: Muntari saves Milan, Essien Atsu suffer Cup losses

A number of Black Stars players suffered losses that saw their teams dumped out of domestic Cup competitions. But there were some bright spots as well…

 

England

Michael Essien came on in the 70th minute at Chelsea were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by a 1-2 away loss to Sunderland, after extra time on Tuesday.

In the same competition, Jeffery Schlupp came on in the 68th minute as Leicester City were beaten 1-3 at home by Manchester City on Tuesday.

 

Italy

In the Serie A, Sulley Muntari gave the assist for the first goal and scored AC Milan's equaliser to earn them a 2-2 home draw with AS Roma on Monday.

Kwadwo Asamoah (68 minutes) helped Juventus to a 3-0 home victory against Serie B side Avellino in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.

 

Netherlands

Christian Atsu played 81 minutes as Vitesse Arnhem lost 1-3 away to Roda JC to crash out of the KNVB Beker on Wednesday.

Kwame Quansah came on in the 80th minute, helped Heracles to a 1-1 home draw with Feyenoord, but lost 6-7 on penalties in the KNVB Beker on Wednesday.

 

Belgium

Bennard Yao Kumordzi came on in the second half as Genk played a 0-0 home draw with KV Oostende in the first leg of the Belgium Cup on Wednesday.

Nana Kwesi Asare (90 minutes) helped Gent to a 1-0 home victory over Kortrijk in the first leg of the Belgium Cup on Wednesday. He was shown a yellow card in the 52nd minute.

 

South Africa

In the PSL, Daniel Agyei conceded a goal, Mohammed Abdul Basit lasted the entire game as Free State Stars lost 0-1 away to Mpumalanga Black Aces on Monday.

Edwin Gyimah (90 minutes) helped SuperSport United to a 1-1 home draw with Rashid Sumaila's (90 minutes) Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday.

Yakubu Mohammed (45 minutes) and Mohammed Awal (90 minutes) were both in Maritzburg United's 1-3 home loss to Wits University on Monday.

 

Tunisia

In the Ligue 1, Harrison Afful helped leaders Esperance de Tunis to a 2-1 home victory over CS Sfaxien on Wednesday.

 

Turkey

In the Turkey Cup, Kwame Amponsah Karikari played the entire game as Balikesirspor were thrashed 0-4 away at Galatasaray on Wednesday.

 

United Arab Emirates

In the Arabian Gulf League, Emmanuel Clottey came on in the 83rd minute as Al Dhafra lost 0-1 away to Al Wahda on Thursday.
