Ghana’s quest of winning a trophy at senior level continued its ''mission elude'' as the locally based Black Stars suffered a 4-3 penalty loss to Libya in the Championship of African Nations(CHAN) final, after an absorbing 0-0 draw.
The game started with both teams treading cautiously, as the game progressed Libya settled and proved to be the much organised side. They kept the defence of the Black Stars under a lot of pressure.
At the other end, the attack of the Ghanaians had a quiet night, as they were let down by nervy touches.
After a barren 120 minutes, the game had to be decided on penalties; Fasial Ali, Muataz Fadel, Ahmed El Tbri and Ahmed Al Maghasi all easily beat Ghana goalkeeper Stephen Adams.
Micheal Akuffo and Abeiku Ainooson saw their respective spot kicks saved by goalkeeper Abdallah, but Stephen Adams saved two straight kicks to keep the Stars in the game. Jack Owusu, Asiedu Attobrah and Godfred Saka converted to make it 3-3.
The difference was the miss by Tijani Joshua, who failed to score with his left foot. The Libyan fans in the opposite corner of the Cape Town Stadium finally could let out their breath - and screams of victory.
