Ghana on Saturday night suffered a 2-1 defeat to Canada in the final Group B game at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
The Maidens side have clicked in Costa Rica winning against Germany and Korea DPR – but they were put under real pressure in the early exchanges b the Canadians.
Needing three points to guarantee progression, the Canadians started the game on the front foot and were rewarded with the first goal on the 10th minute through Marie Lavesseur.
Canada cut open the defence of Ghana with some great passing, they attacked with short incisive passes and constant movement off the ball; in one of these attacks they secured their second through Lavesseur who found room in the box to head home his second on the night.
Ghana responded well after recess and scored through Owusu Ansah on the 72nd minute mark, the Maidens’ huffed and puffed but could not find the leveller.
Both teams thus reach the last eight of the competition and will clash with qualified teams from Group A.
