Medeama keep hopes alive with crucial victory

Ghana’s lone ranger in the CAF Club competition, Medeama SC, kept hopes alive with a 2-0 crucial first leg win over Zambia’s Zesco United.

Nathaniel Asamoah and fellow attacker, Micheal Helegbe were key to Medeama’s win; Nathaniel Asamoah on the 10th minute registered the first goal for the Mauves with a neat strike.

The visitors began to press in search of the much needed away goal but failed to hit the back of the net.

Medeama’s attack on the day proved an increasing nuisance to the back four of the Zambians; they came close to doubling their lead on several attempts but nervy touches were their let down.

Zesco United lost their element of comfort in the 83rd minute after conceding a penalty; Micheal Helegbe converted expertly to make it 2-0.

The game with was played at the Essipong Sports Stadium puts Medeama in a good position ahead of the second leg  at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in a fortnight.
