Spanish La Liga side, Espanyol have made an approach to sign Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu, on loan from Chelsea.
Christian Atsu joined Chelsea last summer from Porto but he is yet to make an appearance for the side. He was on loan with Dutch side, Vitesse Arnhem for the 2013-2014 campaign where he made 26 appearances and scored 5 goals.
Despite starting all three of Ghana’s World Cup matches in Group G, against USA, Germany and Portugal, the 24-year-old may not feature in the plans of Chelsea manager José Mourinho, leading to another loan move for the player.
Sky Sports have reported there’s interest from West Ham, a move which could see him gain valuable Premier League experience. Reports from Spain suggests La Liga side Espanyol, have also set their sights on making a formal loan approach.
Aston Villa and Hamburg are also keeping tabs on his situation.
Atsu is expected to be given a chance to shine at Chelsea during pre-season, before any decision is made, but this isn’t the first time Espanyol have sought to secure the services of the player. Last summer, they hoped to secure his loan, but the move didn’t go through.
The main difficulty for Espanyol again this time, may be financial. They are hoping that they can broker a deal that would see them pay only a small percentage of his salary.
