The countdown to the resumption of the 2014 Ghana Beach Soccer League is in full swing. This follows an extensive meeting between representatives of the twenty beach soccer Clubs and the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The division 1 and Championship leagues were put on hold a week before the FIFA World Cup Finals in Brazil. Boasting ten teams in each division, the leagues are currently in their third consecutive season which will re-commence on Saturday the 9th of August at the La Beach Soccer Arena.
It will be recalled that World Football governing body FIFA, is set to engage member associations in Africa to accelerate the development of beach soccer on the continent.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will set the ball rolling with the first ever African Cup of Nations in 2015 to be hosted by Seychelles.
The tournament qualification series and other beach soccer projects will be supervised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in harmony with the GBSA.
This development will see the formation of a joint beach soccer management committee made up of members from the GBSA and the GFA.
The composition of the management team would be announced in the coming days by the GFA.
Meanwhile, representatives of beach soccer clubs present at the GBSA meeting agreed to embark on a massive clean-up exercise of the beach soccer arena on Thursday 7th August ahead of the resumption of the season.
