Ghana’s Princesses on Wednesday morning edged past Canada in their FIFA U-20 Group A game at the Toronto National Stadium.
Sherifatu Sumaila scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd to hand Coach Bashiru Hayfords side all three points.
It took a resolute performance from the Princesses to edge out Canada as the host pressed and dominated the entirety of the game.
Canada will think themselves unlucky not to have earned a draw, enjoying the lion’s share of goal attempts.
Ghana were a real threat on the left anytime they attacked with Edem Atorvor’s pace and skill; it was one of Atorvers moves in the 22nd minute that saw her rebounded shot tapped in by Sumaila.
Canada made a positive start to the second half, making numerous incursions into the half of the Ghanaians. The host huffed and puffed yet could not beat impressive Victoria Agyei in post for Ghana.
Ghana will play North Korea on Saturday in their second Group A game, the Koreans were 2-1 winners against Finland in the other group game.
