After weeks of absence, the Cal Bank Beach Soccer League vies into full swing, with the league heavy weights going up against each other.
Leaders, Havedzi Mighty Warriors will continue their serge to dethrone Champions, Keta Sunset Sports when they play against Ada Assurance. Havedzi finally crawled out of the shadows of their rival, Sunset Sport, picking up six wins in seven games - including one against their nemesis.
Assurance on the other hand, haven’t been able to replicate the form that saw them finish runners up last season, their campaign has been plagued with uninspiring displays - picking up just two wins in as many games. The break would have come as relief to them, but playing the league leaders right after it, surely isn’t a prospect they will relish.
Defending Champions, Sunset Sports, are yet another side that embraced the break with heartfelt warmness. The two- time winners, in seven weeks lost twice as many games they had lost in the last two seasons and like their captain Cesar Beckley rightly pointed out at the beginning of the campaign every team sets out to beat them.
But perhaps a case of the lack of hunger might also be at work, after picking up the gong twice in the two years of the leagues existence. Well, they have a chance to prove the doubters wrong, when they go up against East Legon sharks, a side that appears to have gone through the curve, after battling with relegation last season. They sit comfortably in the top four after 7 match days challenging for honors and will certainly offer a staunch opposition to the Keta lads this weekend.
A sub ploy to the game as well will see Sema Michael of Sunset Sports and Alex Adjei of the Sharks, hustle to go clear in the goal king race with both locked on 8 goals.
There is a derby on the cards too, as Dansoman and Osu based Layoca lock horns in an Accra derby. Both picked up impressive victories just before the break and have recorded similar number of wins in the campaign. With so little to choose between them, the clash sets up to be a cliffhanger, as they battle it out for the three points.
Debutants Gulf Powers have been able to put their opening day trouncing behind them and caused a few stirs already in the league. Up next for them is a game against Wuo Gbee a side that has flattered to deceive so far in the campaign. Touted as the side to end the Volta dominance the La based side have failed to glitter this season with a paltry 7points from a possible 21
Low lying Nima BSC will also take to the sand against Teshie United, with Nima still searching for the first point since making the leap into the top flight of the CAL Bank sponsored League.
