Ghanaian Players Abroad - 23 October: Bad day in the office

Two Ghanaians featured in the UEFA Champions League and others in the South African top flight. They all, however, were on the losing side.


Kwadwo Asamoah came on for Andrea Pirlo in the 59th minute as Juventus were beaten 2-1 by Real Madrid away at the Santiago Bernabéu. Cristiano Ronaldo got both goals for Real, to increase his Champions League tally to 42 goals. Only Messi and Raul have more. Spaniard Fernando Llorente got the Italians' only goal.


Frank Acheampong was a second half sub, coming on in the 46th minute but he could not help avert the 5-0 thrashing that was handed Anderlecht by PSG. Ibrahimovic grabbed four goals with Cavani getting the other.

South Africa

In the PSL, Daniel Agyei conceded a goal as Free State Stars were beaten 1-0 away at Ajax Cape Town.


Yakubu Mohammed (played 90'), Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi (played 64') and Mohammed Awal (played 90') all featured as Maritzburg United were beaten 1-0 at home by SuperSport United. Awal received a caution in the 65th minute.
