The Egyptian Premier League board has decided to delay the start of the new season from 7 December to 26 December, after failing to get security clearance for the earlier date.
The decision was taken because of the current instability in Egypt. The season was initially scheduled to start on 23 November, before being postponed twice. The draw, scheduled for Monday, has also been scheduled for Monday 2 December because of the absence of the representatives of Champions Ahly and Ghazl El-Mahalla, according to Ahram Sports.
The 20 representatives of the remaining clubs discussed the proposed format for the new season and its schedule. The competition is set to start next month with 22 teams divided into two pools.
However, the club officials decided to postpone the vote and the draw until representatives of all the Premier League clubs are in attendance. Ahly's officials have been in dispute with the Egyptian Premier League board over sponsorship and broadcasting rights.
The most successful and popular club in Egypt have threaten to sell their TV rights on an individual basis, which could damage the collective approach that league clubs intend to take in the upcoming season.
