Equatorial Guinea confirmed as host of AFCON 2015

Confederation of African Football (CAF), today confirmed that Equatorial Guinea will host the 2015 edition of the African Cup of Nations.

Morocco were the original host of the show piece but were stripped of the hosting rights after they sought for a postponement due to fear of the deadly Ebola virus.

After a fruitful discussion between CAF boss Issa Hayatou and President of Equatorial Guinea an agreement was reached for the Spanish speaking nation to host the rest of Africa from January 17 to February 8, 2015.

Bata, Mongomo, Ebebiyin and capital Malabo are the four selected cities were matches will be played. The draw will be held in Malabo on December 3, 2014.

It’s however unclear if the Guineans will feature in the competition after they were disqualified for fielding an unqualified player in the initial qualifying round
