Basketball giants Mfantsipim SHS, Presec Boys and Opoku Ware SHS progressed into the quarter finals of the Sprite Ball Championships held on Friday at the El-Wak Sports Stadium and the Aviation Social Center.

Volta regional champions, Keta Senior High and Adisadel College were the sides to prevail, following victories in their respective Group A games against Prempeh College and Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School.

Keta Senior High School stole the show at the Aviation Social Center with some good display of basketball. The lads from Keta will play Koforidua Secondary Technical in the quarter-finals.

In the Group B games played at the Aviation Social Center, Opoku Ware led by diminutive captain Kweku Wusu Ansah, progressed into the quarter final stage following three straight victories over Mawuli SHS, West African SHS and KSTS.

KSTS will be looking to improve their performance in the quarter final stage.

Presec boys, ‘’blue magic’’ as they are affectionately called were to strong for their opponents in Group C, they recorded three wins over Akwamuman SHS, Kumasi Angllican SHS and GSTS.

Their performance has no doubt attracted loads of attention, which is why pundits have tagged them as one of the favourites in the competition.

Akwamuman Senior High School will join Presec in the next stage after placing second in the Group.

Three time winners, Mfantsipim though qualified from their group, struggled against the likes of Accra High, St. Augustine College and St. Johns in Group D.

The defending champions will need to step up their game in their next clash against Akwamuman in order to stand any chance of retaining their title.

TI Ahmadiyya and Aggrey Memorial were dominant in the girls division.

Aggrey Memorial who are current champions proved a handful for opponents in Group A. The Cape Coast based side will be seeking to retain their title as they clash with Mfantsiman Girls in the semis.

T.I Amhmadiyya who are making their first appearance in the championship announced their presence with their compact, aggressive and physical style of play which eventually aided their qualification into the next phase.
