The Ghana University Sports Association has secured a GHC 63,400 from Barclays bank in the build up to their 23rd edition of their Biennial Games to be staged in Cape Coast in five days .
The games which will be held at the University of Cape Coast from the 11th to the 22nd of June will see all seven public Universities compete in 10 sporting disciplines. This is first time in history of the games reserved for public Universities in country that a sponsorship package has been secured.
Barclays Bank thus become the head line sponsor of this year's GUSA games alongside Promasidor Ghana limited who have been consistent in supporting University games.
According to the Local Organizing Committee , participating Universities will compete for the first time in Goal ball-agame eserved for the visually impaired and nine other Sporting disciplines including Football ,Volley Ball ,Hockey, Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball, Net ball , Handball and Athletics .It would be recalled that the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hauled a total of 22 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze to emerge Champions of the 22nd Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games held in Kumasi in 2012.
University of Ghana (UG) placed second with (17) gold, (26) silver and (19) bronze, while the University of Education-Winneba (UEW) came third with (15) gold, seven silver and nine bronze.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), managed (five) gold, (11) silver and (15) bronze, to place fourth, University for Development Studies (UDS) won (one) gold and (two) silver, to place fifth, with the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), taking the sixth position, with (three) bronze.
This year's event promises to be very exciting with all seven Public Universities ready to have a go at each other at the University of Cape Coast.
