Joshua “Hitter” Clottey earned a unanimous decision over Dashon “Flyboy” Johnson in New York, on Saturday.
The three judges scored the fight 100/89, 100/89, 99/90.
Fighting for the first time under new management, Star Boxing, the former welterweight champion dominated the rounds with solid body work and hard punches through the early rounds to build a points lead over a game Johnson.
Clottey’s long absence from the ring showed in the latter rounds as Johnson closed the fight with good inside fighting. But Clottey held on for a win that should propel him into the upper echelons of the junior middleweight division and a possible fight between the winner of the Ishe Smith and Molina title fight.
Joshua Clottey is expected back in Ghana next week.
