Former champion of the Accra Milo Marathon, David Zigah, is clamouring for support for Athletics in Ghana.
The five-time winner of the event was conspicuously missing in the 27th edition of the competition and he explained that it was an injury that kept him away.
"A marathon race is an event that you need to prepare very well in order to participate. Without it, you don't have to enter. This year, I picked up an injury when I started training. I needed it to heal before I do any activity. Probably by next year, I will come back."
Not disappointed that he wouldn't be the one representing Ghana at Glasgow 2014, Zigah threw his support behind Ghana's reps but stressed that how well they will do will depend on the amount of support they receive.
"Our people going to the Commonwealth Games can do well. In Ghana, we have a lot of talent. But the thing is we the athletes need support. If we get the kind of support that football gets in this country, we can make it internationally.
"Athletics especially in this country is not getting support, and we need it."
